At these latitudes, the weeks just before the Summer Solstice are amazing – “Golden Time” stretches for like 2-1/2 hours before the sun finally sets. It’s unfortunate that properties like Rievaulx Abbey close well before that time arrives; it’s fortunate that the walls around the site are not very high….
