David Hume is regarded as one of the principal authors of the Scottish Enlightenment.
This statue is one of the most prominent fixtures along Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, the cobblestone street that winds from Hollyrood Park to Edinburgh Castle, thru the heart of the “Old City.”
Visitors rub the big toe of the old sage’s foot, so that over the years the green bronze patina has been rubbed away to reveal one big, shiny toe.
